Self-Pity: Most harmful habit for your mental health

Going through a rough patch in life?

Is it one of those days when everyone’s else’s life appears to be perfect and sorted out?

A day when you just catch sight of someone and assume about their entire life being a bliss and all about happiness and delight?

Well, feeling inadequate at times is very usual but don’t let self-pity get a grip of you.

SELF-PITY is a fail-safe recipe for unhappiness.

It’s is a choice you should never choose.

It’s a dead-end street you never want to walk on.

Refuse it. It’s lethal.

“Self-pity is easily the most destructive of the non-pharmaceutical narcotics; it is addictive, gives momentary pleasure and separates the victim from reality.” ― John Gardner

I know, it’s so much easier said than done, but then, that’s your life and you don’t want to mess it up.

That way you realize that you have a lot going for you. What you need to do is just have an eye for it.

Developing an outlook of gratitude is one of the simplest ways to be satisfied in life. We very well know that the more satisfied we are with our lives, the happier it will make us.

  • Keep a small notebook and jot down the things you are grateful for every day.
  • Practicing it for just fifteen minutes a day for at least 2 weeks will unleash the tremendous effect on your personality. It kindles a feeling of goodness and righteousness taking self-pity far aside from you.

TAKE IT UPON YOURSELF TO DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE

self-pity

If you face a debacle, go fight it. Let downs, setbacks are normal. Don’t let them change your course.

Yes, You are allowed to stagger and lurch in your hardships but don’t ever raise the white flag. Don’t ever give in to self-pity.

Take more charge of your life.

Believe in the glory of faith. Don’t let any circumstances pour cold water on what you want to achieve.

SHARE SOME GIGGLES. LAUGH YOUR WORRIES AWAY.

Don’t hold on to poor me

Let’s head out for a living spree

Never give way to self-pity

Abandon the worries, get a little witty.

Being humorous expands the acceptance of new ideas and increases your likability as a person.

Your ability to solve the problem thus diminishing the stress.

Everything around is so amusing. Learn to appreciate it. The more self-assured and witty you become, the more harmonious is your social life with self-pity a million miles away.

DO NOT COMPARE

Sure, there are countless people in the world who are more successful, wealthier and much more sought after than us. And sure as a gun, they all have their struggles to deal with behind the doors.

But that does not give you the freedom of falling into the intensely ugly and enticing set-up of comparison.

But why do we compare? Ever wondered?

Let’s take a closer look.

Comparison with others is a pure and inborn tendency which sometimes let us be unaware when we start practicing it.

And it surely is the fear of subordination and inferiority that acts as a perfect catalyst making us sit on that bench of measuring ourselves up with our peers which in turn precipitates self-pity.

THE PATH TO BE TAKEN

· Be more mindful and heedful of the scenarios when you find ourselves getting indulged in it and making a sincere effort to stop it right there.

· Shifting your focus to the good things and blessings in life is a trick that does the business.

Weighing up yourself up against others is no-good.

You need to maneuver your way out of the trap of self-pity and comparison.

The only wholesome comparison you must be making is comparing yourself with a prior version of you.

SHIFT YOUR FOCUS

You need to shift the center from everything we are deficient of and everything we suck at to pondering over all the wonderful things we are attaining and have attained.

There are many areas where you are a crackerjack. It’s time to pay attention to them.

High Time to give some credit to yourself, to raise a toast to your accomplishments till date.

Identify the negative thoughts and give them a positive whirl.

Don’t be the “glass is half empty” kind of person.

Extract the positives, and “just trash the negative thoughts”.

If You have an itch for something, work towards achieving it. Go, get it.

KEEP BEING YOU

Be unapologetically youIt’s liberating.

Love all of yourself with all the facets.

Funny, weird, flawed, perfect, all of it.

Choose to be your silly self sometimes.

And if people don’t like you, that’s fine. Cause you don’t like everyone as much either. Right?

DON’T RUN AFTER PERFECTION

Don’t color your life as perfect.

Be raw, be crystal clear natural.

Perfection is dull. It is just a fantasy.

The hunt for perfection is one of the quickest routes to unhappiness.

Enjoy the messy and imperfect side of your life.

DON’T COMPLAIN. QUIT YOUR WHINING

self-pity

Spending today complaining about yesterday won’t make tomorrow any better.” -unknown

Don’t be a cry baby. Complaining and whining cannot ever serve as a bedrock for the better future you seek to achieve.

In fact, it increases the sense of gloom and misery which in turns gives rise to discontent.

By whining, you reside in your past with no zeal to move forward.

Challenge yourself to go 24 hours without cribbing and see the impact for yourself.

Break the habit. Start living.

Life is too charming to waste it grumbling.

NEXT TIME YOU FIND YOURSELF WALKING ON THAT LANE, YOU NEED TO STOP.

Don’t let it gobble up your life.

Stop feeling sorry for yourselves. It’s demoralizing.

Self-pity does attract the short term attention that you crave but it’s a pathetic way to ask for the same. It’s an unrewarding habit. Shirk it.
